Grimsby Beach is a lakeside historic neighbourhood on the shore of Lake Ontario, best known for its cluster of brightly painted Victorian gingerbread cottages ringing Auditorium Circle. The area began in the mid-1800s as a Methodist camp-meeting ground and grew into a celebrated summer retreat often called Canada's Chautauqua, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to a vast wooden auditorium known as The Temple. Although the auditorium and later amusement park are long gone, the tightly packed painted cottages along Temple Lane and Auditorium Circle survive as one of Niagara's most photographed heritage streetscapes.
