Stamford is the north-central district of Niagara Falls that was once its own township and the site of Stamford Village, among the earliest settlements in the area dating to the 1780s. Loyalist families settled the land, and the village core along Portage Road is known for Stamford Green, reputed to be the only traditional English-style village green in Canada. Stamford Township amalgamated with the City of Niagara Falls in 1963, and the name still marks a recognizable residential neighbourhood with heritage churches.
