Bismarck is a small historic hamlet at a rural crossroads in West Lincoln, roughly midway between Smithville and the Welland River. German settler Christian Sunday established it in 1830 as 'Sunday's Settlement'; it later became 'Ball's Corners' after a store opened by Crysler Ball, and was renamed Bismarck when the post office opened in 1872, in honour of the Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck. Today it is a tiny farming community whose name and crossroads remain recognizable to travellers on the surrounding county roads.
