DeCew Falls and Morningstar Mill

Where Beaverdams Creek tumbles over the Niagara Escarpment near the DeCew hydro complex, DeCew Falls drops in a slender ribbon that has drawn visitors for well over a century. Perched beside it is Morningstar Mill, a preserved water-powered grist mill and homestead that once harnessed the creek to grind grain and generate power for the surrounding community. The grounds sit right at the edge of the Bruce Trail, making the site a favourite for short hikes, photography and picnics with a view over the gorge.

As of mid-2026 the historic mill buildings are closed while the city carries out a major, multi-year structural rehabilitation, so interior tours are not currently available. The waterfall itself and the adjoining sections of the Bruce Trail remain open to explore.
