Fonthill is the largest community and commercial heart of the Town of Pelham, perched atop the Fonthill Kame, a glacial ridge that gives it some of the highest ground in the Niagara Peninsula. It grew from a settlement once called Osborne's Corners and Temperanceville before adopting the name Fonthill (after England's Fonthill Abbey), and was an incorporated village from 1922 until the 1970 amalgamation that created modern Pelham. Its walkable downtown along Pelham Street blends independent shops, cafes and restaurants with nearby orchards and nature trails.
