Welland Canals Parkway Trail

The trail runs the length of the modern Welland Canal, passing the lift locks where ocean-going and lake freighters climb the Niagara Escarpment between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. For much of its length the path is wide, paved and level, though through the City of Welland it detours to follow the older recreational canal corridor, and a short section near Thorold climbs the escarpment.

It is one of the core segments of the Greater Niagara Circle Route and is popular for cycling, running and walking, with ship-viewing platforms and canal-side parks along the way. Maintained as part of the Region's trail network, it links the northern terminus near Lakeshore Road in St. Catharines to Clarence Street in Port Colborne.
