Beaverdams is one of Thorold's oldest settlement areas and the namesake of the Battle of Beaver Dams, fought nearby in June 1813 after Laura Secord's famous warning walk to the DeCew House. The 1832 Beaverdams Church, long regarded as one of the oldest surviving Methodist churches in Ontario, still stands as a reminder of the community's pioneer roots. A battlefield memorial and Beaverdams Park keep the War of 1812 heritage that gives the area its lasting identity.
