Following an abandoned railway line, the Friendship Trail offers a smooth, level surface with almost no elevation change, which makes it approachable for families, casual cyclists and walkers of most abilities. Along the way it passes farmland, residential neighbourhoods and access points to Lake Erie's sandy beaches, with views across the water toward the Buffalo skyline on clear days.
The trail forms the southern leg of the Greater Niagara Circle Route and connects at its eastern end toward the Fort Erie waterfront and the Niagara River Recreation Trail. It is managed by the Town of Fort Erie and is open year-round, with parking, washrooms and other amenities at several trailheads.
