Welland International Flatwater Centre

The Welland International Flatwater Centre sits on the calm, straightened channel of the former Welland Canal, now known as the Welland Recreational Waterway, which was rebuilt into a purpose-designed competition course. The venue has hosted major international events including canoe sprint world championships, dragon boat world championships, canoe polo, and the paddling program of the 2015 Pan American Games, and it features grandstand facilities plus an indoor training tank for rowing and paddling. Beyond elite competition, the surrounding parkland and long stretch of sheltered water are a hub for community recreation, from paddling and rowing clubs to walking and cycling along the shore. For a first-time visitor, it is a good place to watch crews on the water, stroll the canal-side paths, and get a sense of how Welland reinvented its historic canal corridor as a recreational asset.
