Old Fort Erie

Operated by Niagara Parks, Old Fort Erie sits where the Niagara River drains out of Lake Erie, guarding a spot that made it strategically vital through the American Revolution and the War of 1812. The current fortification is a period restoration that reopened to the public in the late 1930s, rebuilt to reflect its 1812-1814 appearance and the fierce 1814 siege that unfolded on the surrounding battlefield.

Today it functions as a living-history destination where uniformed staff lead visitors through the ramparts, barracks and powder magazine, staging drills and firearms demonstrations. A modern Welcome Centre adds interactive exhibits, a theatre and a snack bar, making it a natural first stop for anyone exploring the region's military heritage.
