Grimsby is a town on the southwestern shore of Lake Ontario at the western edge of the Niagara Region, settled by Loyalists at Forty Mile Creek in the 1780s. It is popularly known for the "Painted Ladies" of Grimsby Beach, a cluster of brightly coloured Victorian gingerbread cottages near the lake. The Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail pass through the town, drawing hikers and outdoor visitors.
