Step through the door of this restored 19th-century dispensary and you enter a working chemist's shop frozen in time, complete with walnut-and-gold shelving, hand-labelled bottles, and glass show globes. Designated a National Historic Site, the apothecary is owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust and staffed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists, whose interpreters explain how medicines were compounded long before modern pharmacy. It sits at the busy corner of Queen and King Streets, making it an easy, unhurried stop for visitors wandering the historic downtown.
