Laid out on the filled-in channel of an early Welland Canal, Battle of Beaverdams Park is a ten-acre green space in the heart of Thorold dedicated to one of the War of 1812's decisive Niagara engagements. Although the fighting of June 1813, famously foreshadowed by Laura Secord's warning and won with the help of Indigenous allies, actually took place a short distance away, the park gathers monuments relocated here over the years, including a 1920s memorial cairn and a millennium cairn, beneath mature shade trees.
Today it serves double duty as an everyday community park, with a bandshell, benches, swings, and walking paths, and as a quiet place to reflect on the region's early history.
