Set at the top of the escarpment on Chapel Street South, the Lock 7 Viewing Complex is Thorold's front-row seat to canal traffic. From its outdoor platform and bleachers, ships pass close enough to read their names as they complete the final climb of the canal at Lock 7 and continue toward the twinned flight locks. Staff on hand share the story of the waterway and the community that grew up around it.
The complex doubles as a visitor information stop, with a small gift shop, a short film on the canal's history, washrooms and drinking water, and touches aimed at younger guests. It is coach-friendly and wheelchair accessible, making it an easy stop for travellers, cyclists on the parkway trail, and families exploring the Niagara region.
