The Butterfly Conservatory brings a slice of the tropics to the Niagara Parkway, sheltering more than two thousand butterflies across dozens of species inside a warm, humid dome filled with flowering plants, ferns and trickling water. Visitors follow a network of level, accessible pathways as the insects flutter overhead and occasionally land on a shoulder or outstretched hand, while an emergence window lets you watch newly hatched butterflies dry their wings.
Because it sits within the wider School of Horticulture display grounds, the conservatory pairs naturally with a longer stroll through the surrounding botanical collections, and its indoor setting is useful in unsettled weather, subject to current hours and maintenance notices.
Tickets and getting there
Published admission is CAD $25 for adults 13+, $16.50 for children 3–12, and free for ages 2 and under. The conservatory is at 2565 Niagara Parkway in the Botanical Gardens, with paid parking on site. General admission does not require a reservation; arrive at least an hour before closing.
Indoor visit and maintenance
The conservatory has wheelchair-accessible paths and operates year-round, subject to its current hours and maintenance notices. A January–February closure in 2026 does not establish the dates of a future closure. Check the live calendar before a winter trip; the outdoor Botanical Gardens are a separate part of the visit.
